Reading the Live Clock Cards
Each city card shows a live-ticking time (updating every second), its current date, and its UTC offset (like UTC-5 or UTC+5:30), pulled directly from your browser's built-in Intl time zone data rather than a hardcoded offset table, so it's always current even across daylight saving transitions. A small +1 or -1 badge appears when that city's calendar date is a day ahead of or behind yours, a common source of confusion when scheduling across the international date line or just across a wide UTC spread.
How the Meeting Planner Grid Works
The meeting planner shows a 24-column grid, one column per UTC hour, with one row per active city. Each cell is colored by what that hour looks like locally in that city: green for typical work hours, amber for the shoulder hours just outside that, and gray for likely-asleep hours. Click any column to select that UTC hour as your proposed meeting time; the "At UTC HH:00 it is…" list below immediately shows the resulting local time and date in every active zone.
Work, Shoulder, and Night Hours Explained
Work hours are set as 9 AM to 6 PM local time, a reasonable default business day. Shoulder hours (7-9 AM and 6-9 PM) are early-morning or evening slots some people can flex into for an important call but wouldn't want as a standing meeting time. Everything else counts as night. These are fixed defaults meant as a quick visual heuristic, not a per-person working-hours setting.
Daylight Saving Time: Handled Automatically
This tool uses IANA time zone identifiers (like America/New_York or Asia/Kolkata) via the browser's Intl API, not fixed UTC offsets, so daylight saving transitions are applied automatically and correctly for whatever the current date is, without needing updates when DST rules change in a given country. This is also why the same city can show a different UTC offset depending on the time of year, that's expected and correct.
Adding and Removing Cities
Your local timezone is detected automatically and always shown first. Search the add-city box to bring in any of the built-in preset cities by name or airport-style code (like NYC or SIN); remove any non-local city with the X button that appears on hover. Both the live clocks and the meeting planner grid update immediately to reflect your active city list.
